Cities like Dubai don’t just expand outward. They’re rising higher than ever before. But as we build taller and taller, there’s one question we have to ask: how do we keep up? After all, what’s the point of living on the 82nd floor of a luxury tower if getting there feels like a daily marathon? That’s where the latest advancements in high-rise transportation come in. And when it comes to innovation, every top elevators company in UAE is leading the way.
Elevators aren’t a hassle anymore.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m just as thankful for these beautiful metal boxes as the next person. No one wants to climb stairs, and we’re glad elevators exist. But the point of these things has been to make our lives easier and just more efficient, right?
Let me give you an example here. You’re on your way home after a tiring day of work and can’t wait to kick back and relax. You step into a crowded elevator in your residential building, press your floor number, and wait. And wait. And wait. On every floor, someone gets on, someone gets off. By the time you reach your destination, you could’ve made a cup of coffee and finished half of it. Sound familiar? Now, tell me, isn’t that the opposite of making your life easy?
Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way anymore. You see, that’s the old way of doing things. The future of high-rise transportation, though, is smarter, faster, and far more efficient.
The latest elevators lift technology is designed to make these long, inefficient rides a thing of the past. Smart dispatching systems now use AI to predict demand, grouping passengers based on destination floors rather than letting everyone pile into the same lift and stopping at every level. Imagine stepping into a building’s lobby, selecting your floor on a sleek touchscreen, and being guided to a specific elevator that’s taking people only to nearby levels. No wasted time. No unnecessary stops. Just movement. Now, that’s what I call making my life easier.
Some high-rises are going even further, integrating facial recognition or keycard access so that residents don’t even have to press a button. Their elevator knows exactly where they need to go. In ultra-luxury buildings, some homeowners even have direct-to-apartment lifts, turning their ride home into something that feels more like stepping into a private jet than an everyday commute.
We know about going up and down – what about right and left?
You remember that one scene in the Harry Potter movies where Harry and his gang go to the Ministry of Magic, and they’re greeted by this massive, technologically advanced (but obviously, their technology is just magic) building? They’re greeted with lifts that don’t just take them from one floor to another, but also across each floor if need be. Everyone thought it was the coolest!
Well, what if I tell you that can now be a reality for you? That’s right, the world is now moving towards multi-directional elevators that can now move sideways. These systems use magnetic technologies or rail systems and are honestly going to be the talk of the town soon enough. They’re already being tested out in so many places.
And we need them too! Our buildings aren’t just vertically big, though that does seem to be one of our unique selling points in the UAE. They’re also just huge, generally. And having multidirectional elevators would mean we won’t have to walk from one end of the floor to another, just like we don’t walk from one floor to another.
And when all else fails, escalators never will!
We don’t really talk about escalators all that much when we think of high-rises. Of course, they’re a cornerstone of any great mall, but malls aren’t really considered high-rises.
But my question is: why not? Why can’t escalators be used in these tall buildings? We’ve seen that they can be.
You’ve all been to the Burj Khalifa, right? These popular tourist destinations get so many visitors every day that elevators just don’t cut it. That’s why they’ve got multiple escalators installed, too. Unlike elevators, which can only have a limited capacity per travel, escalators are constantly moving, and someone is getting on and off at any given time.
Now, why can’t they be added to your apartment buildings? These high-rises have so many floors and so many people residing in them. Having a smart elevator is great, but a group of escalators would just be an added bonus, right? And what’s more: they’d look great, too.
I know it might sound like a weird idea to some, but that’s where all innovation comes from: one weird idea is all it takes!
