It has been said that having a big ego can lead to a very small bank account. Most agree that remaining humble and coachable is a major key to uncovering new opportunities and finding growth and success with them. Steven Hooley lives a life embodying these principles and he feels that it has made all of the difference.
At a young age Steven was master of computer technology and was often considered the smartest guy in the rooms he found himself in. Steven’s high school teacher said of him that he never let education get in the way of learning. This appetite for learning carried well into Steven’s adult years where he adopted a lifestyle of constant learning. His computer savvy allowed him to start a small business while attending college where he would build and design websites for other college students and small businesses. This passion for technology eventually grew to a full-scale technology consulting business where Steven and his team create enterprise software for companies in need. Despite all of this success, Steven still believes in remaining humble and taking advantage of the opportunity to learn from everyone around him.
Steven believes that every entrepreneur should learn to remain humble, listen to others, and always focus on developing relationships. He credits his ability to contribute to a conversation rather than dominating it to much of the incredible networking opportunities he has found. He states, “You just never know what you’ll learn if you let others do more of the talking. It’s something you learn with experience, and also as your EQ grows over time. In business, and most relationships in life — EQ is far more important than IQ, and humility is a superpower that way too many people in business ignore.”
“If you have a strong ‘why,’ then get passionate, and form a purpose fueled by that why. Then you can go pretty far with these lessons. But most importantly—just don’t give up,” This principle has allowed Steven to build everything he has in a relatively short period of time. He is grateful for many of the obstacles he has had to overcome because they have taught him valuable lessons that make him better equipped to serve his clients and relationships.
Steven’s deep belief in respecting and learning from everyone around him has allowed him to build a lifestyle by design. He believes strongly in mentorship as a shortcut to getting the results you desire much faster than you could do on your own. Steven says this humble mindset has allowed him to prevent many mistakes before they even happen.
