Missing one or more teeth can be very embarrassing for a patient, so that one might consider many replacement options. One might contact Sedona dentist Bryan Shanahan for informative methods to fulfill the missing tooth using different ways. A dentist can help a patient understand whether the patient is eligible for the procedure or not.

Usually, after tooth loss, bone resorption becomes a widespread issue for the patients. To avoid this, dental implants are a reliable replacement source to consider because they help preserve the health of the bone. Moreover, dental implants are customized for each patient. Therefore, giving a natural appearance.

Advantages dental implants offer over other dentures in preserving bone health

There are specific facts and benefits that provide the overall health of the jaw bone.

1. The strength of the jaw depends on the roots of teeth:

There is a close relation between jaw and teeth, and healthy teeth maintain the strength of the jaw bone. When biting, chewing, and smiling, roots transmit pressure to the jaws, which helps stimulate the bone and gum tissue. Now, losing teeth will not provide any transmission to gums and jaw, and thus bone resorption occurs. As the jaw bone cannot get stimulated, the mass will start disappearing slowly. It weakens the jaw over time and can affect the facial structures.

2. Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that prevent bone loss:

Dental implants are placed to replace original teeth and inserted directly into the jaw bone. These are made of titanium, and as soon as the gums and jaw go under the healing process, titanium starts working and undergoes a process of osseointegration and forms bonds permanently with neighboring tissues. Moreover, placing restoration will exert the same amount of force and pressure used by natural teeth. It will stimulate the underlying tissue for a stronger jaw and prevent the resorption of bone.

3. Alternative treatments do not preserve bone structure:

Treatments like partial dentures and dental bridges can be preferred, but these are not the permanent solution for missing teeth. This is because they effectively treat issues like uneven bite pressure, shifting of teeth towards empty sockets, and restoring the aesthetics of a smile. These dentures or bridges cannot exert the force required by the gums and the jaw bone. In contrast, the jaw gets weak over time because of bone resorption. So, to preserve the jaw bone, dental implants are best suited.
