It’s that time of the year again, for those of us who have that special someone in our lives right now. The festive season of wearing matching ugly jumpers has come to an end, and now you need to figure out what you’ll be doing on the 14th of February.
It’s easy to go with whatever you do every year, but let’s face it, having a typical Valentine’s date goes against its main principle. So, if you want to celebrate your love with your other half this year, here’s a few Valentine’s day date ideas you might want to consider.
5 Outdoor Date Ideas
Spa Day
If you’d rather enjoy a relaxing day with your partner right next to you, a spa day might be exactly what you’re looking for. We all enjoy getting a romantic massage from our partner once in a while, but why not let the professionals handle it while you immerse yourselves in the scent of candles and essential oils. Treat yourselves and exude your worries together.
Karaoke
On the other hand, if you feel like spending a fun night out with music and dancing but the club just feels a little bit too loud for you, there’s always karaoke. Order some drinks and go through each other’s favourite playlists while getting down to the beat.
Escape Room
You might have to plan ahead for this one as many couples love the thrill an escape room brings to their Valentine’s day celebration. This is a little different to your usual Valentine’s date, but it definitely brings in a big element of curiosity and surprise! Most escape rooms will have champagne and chocolates whether you manage to escape or not.
Ice Skating
The weather’s still freezing outside and there’s no better place to enjoy a fun game of tag then in an ice skating rink… especially if one of the two has become rusty. Put on some thick clothes (mostly to break your falls) and your skating boots and lead your partner around the rink, holding hands and keeping each other warm.
Visit The Place You First Met
If you’ve been together for many years now, but have not passed by the place where you first locked eyes with each other, then maybe it’s time you took a stroll down memory lane. Whether you felt the sparks fly at a nearby park or felt the butterflies while shopping downtown, sometimes there’s nothing more romantic than reminiscing about it together.
5 Indoor Date Ideas
Game Night
If you both enjoy a fair share of competitiveness in your relationship, how about you go up against each other. Take your turns deciding on a game (whether that’s a video game or a board game) you’d like to play against your partner and show each other who’s boss in each one.
Movie Night
It might sound basic, but hear me out. Take out that old projector, make some butter popcorn or hot chocolate, bring some thick blankets and put on your pyjamas. A scary movie is always recommended in this kind of setting but a romcom can still do the trick. Cuddle up and maybe have a tickle war under the blankets.
Chocolate Baking
It wouldn’t be Valentine’s day without chocolate. Get a random chocolate recipe from the internet and put on your apron. Try to shape your creations as much as you can like a love-heart and use the leftover chocolate to feed each other. Another alternative could also be a chocolate war!
Treasure Hunt
This is the home equivalent for our escape room recommendation above. Give each other a clue and race to find your Valentine’s day gift before your partner! If you want to make it extra challenging, try to include little known facts about you as “helpful tips” on each clue so you can find out how well you really know each other.
Create An Album
This will be especially sweet for those who’ve been with each other for a long time. Gather your favourite pictures you’ve taken together over the years and create a romantic album. Let yourselves go a bit old school here by not using digital albums. Print your images and begin sorting them in chronological order and at the end, include a picture of you on this year’s Valentine’s day.
It’s easy to feel pressured into preparing something extravagant for your other half on the most romantic day of the year, but sometimes all it takes to make it special is someone special. So, whether you decide to hit the road or stay home this year, make sure you’re spending every second with the one person that matters to you the most!
