1. Tik Tok
Despite the hiccups faced by the app, Tik Tok has emerged as the most downloaded app in India. It’s downloads grew by 79% to almost 200 million. The statistic becomes even more staggering when you consider that it beat Facebook downloads by more than 40 million in the same year. The app which was once dismissed as an Instagram knock off has caught the attention of millions of people from around the world. It has given hope to Indians especially those not coming from the most affluent of backgrounds of becoming a celebrity. To this effect, Tik Tok is now being widely used by barbers, rickshaw walas and many more.
2. Facebook
Once considered as the biggest social media icon in India, Facebook was dethroned by Tik Tok this year as the most downloaded app. Despite getting knocked off from the first place, Zuckerberg’s social media platform amassed 160 million downloads. In comparison to last year, this represents a drop of 11%. It has become quite apparent that Facebook will have to reinvent itself in the coming years if it is to avoid the same fate that fell upon other social media platforms such as Orkut.
3. Likee
Another short video platform coming from BIGO, a Singapore based company, Likee was downloaded 190 million times in 2021. The app allows the user to place special filters and stickers on their video which has naturally gone down well with the young audience.
4. Whatsapp
The go to messaging platform saw another fantastic year in terms of downloads, amassing over 134 million. Despite the rather impressive number, the downloads were down by almost 3 percent. Consumers have been weary as of late when it comes to using whatsapp due to security issues and possible threats of being spied on. As a result many have sought out alternative services such as Signal and Telegram.
5. Facebook Messenger
Talking about alternative messaging services, the FB messenger is having a bit of a rough time. Despite Facebook forcing consumers to download this as a stand alone app, downloads fell by 15% and the messaging service slipped from second position to fifth in a span of just two years.
6. UC Browser
In a list dominated by social media apps, it is refreshing to note that a new browser has managed to crack the top list of most downloaded apps in India. It clocked in over 117 million downloads to provide users an alternative to chrome and safari browsers.
7. ShareIt
A file sharing app, ShareIt has been around for a few years now. It recorded over 100 million downloads in 2019 but as per the latest stats, the downloads have fallen by almost 2% this year.
8. Cricket Betting Apps
Now I understand that for this particular entry we are slightly cheating here by not mentioning a specific app but the fact of the matter is that the online betting industry in India has exploded as of late. While just a few years ago, Indian punters were struggling to find any noteworthy bookmakers, now it seems there is a good amount of choice. Even celebrities such as Virender Sehwag and Chris Gayle have jumped on the bandwagon and are promoting online casinos and cricket betting apps. Experts at cricketbettingwali.in believe there are quite a number of reasons that have led to the growing popularity of online betting. The Internet is now more readily available across India and the cost of owning mobile phones is on the decline. Add the fact that you can place bets on your favourite cricket matches from your home or while on the go using these cricket betting apps makes online betting even more exciting.
Furthermore, with increased competition in the market, cricket betting apps will offer enticing bonuses and welcome packages which can either take in the shape of match deposit bonuses if it is an online casino or free bets if it is a bookmaker. This means that once you have downloaded the app and created the account you can dive straight into betting without even placing in your own money. This will allow you to explore the interface, the games available before settling on your preferred app.
